As I’ve said previously, the PDCC is holding elections for a new Chair & Vice-chair next month (at our meeting on Thursday, July 11).
Some good news: we have our first declared candidate! Steve Lovejoy has thrown his hat in the ring for the position of Chair. His candidate statement is below:
Hi Everyone.
I’m a lifelong resident of Greater Portland and have lived in the city since 1980. Some of you may remember me from the two terms I served in the Maine Legislature representing district 41 here in Portland. Others may remember me from my banking background, and there is always my time at the Maine Small Business Development Center here at USM. I am committed to this city and the Democratic party.
As a lifelong Democrat and resident of Greater Portland I am putting my name forward for the Chair of the Portland Democrats. I want to see the Portland Democrats become a group that continues our strong tradition here in the city and expand our membership and our outreach. The city is growing, and changing, and as an organization we need to not only adapt to the changes, but also help guide them.
I believe that we can continue to increase our role in both the city and state. We need to rebuild our organization, and our influence in Augusta. That means we need to be a more vital and visible party of our city. I hope that you agree and are willing to work with me to do just that!
I look forward to working with you!
Steve Lovejoy’s candidate statement for PDCC Chair
This means we have at least one candidate for Chair, but of course, elections are always better when there is some competition! If you want to run for either chair or vice-chair, please let me know, and I will send out your candidate statement as well. Any registered Democrat in Portland is eligible, so please consider running if you want to get more involved in city & state politics!
Sincerely,
Sam Tracy
Chair, Portland Democratic City Committee
