IMPORTANT: They will re-write Portland’s future

The charter commission election here in Portland is important.

We are voting on representatives to a commission that could update our charter–changing the very nature of how our city is governed. That means changing how city decisions are made and what kind of future is possible for us all. It’s true: the winners of this election will re-write Portland’s future.

Will they write a future that is more democratic, or less? More transparent, or less? More just, or less?

That will be up to them, but for right now it’s up to us. Before we put our future in their handswe get to shape the Commission with our votes and our actions.

VOTES: Early voting is open and Election Day is June 8. Find candidate and voting information on our charter website, and remember: VOTE DEMOCRAT FOR CHARTER.

Whose values will shape our future?

As Portland Democrats, we want to make sure that Democratic values are shaping our future and our city’s charter. So let’s elect Democratic candidates to the Charter Commission! Because the ballots won’t identify political party, we’ve put together this website to help voters know the candidates’ political party and the issues they support.

Please check out the website and share it with your friends, neighbors, and social networks.

Make a Difference with the Portland Dems

While we don’t endorse in races with multiple Democrats running, PDCC encourages you to learn about all the District and At-Large candidates at our charter websiteand to vote for Democrats in every race.

*Announcement of Endorsement Vote*

On May 20, 2021, the Portland Democratic City Committee will hold a discussion and vote regarding an endorsement for Ryan Lizanecz for the position of District 5 Charter Commission Member. According to our bylaws, the PDCC may consider candidate endorsements when there is only one registered Democrat on the ballot for a certain elected office. Ryan Lizanecz is the only registered Democrat running to represent District 5 in the Charter Commission.

All Portland residents who are present at the May 20 virtual meeting and currently enrolled in the Democratic Party may partake in the vote. An affirmative vote indicates support for PDCC endorsing Ryan Lizanecz in District 5 at this time. A negatory vote indicates lack of support for PDCC endorsing Ryan Lizanecz in District 5 at this time. Persons may also vote “present” to abstain from voting.
