Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States and commemorates all the enslaved who suffered so unjustly under its rule. Starting in 2022, Juneteenth will be an official paid state holiday, thanks to a new bill signed by Gov. Mills last weekCongratulations to Rep. Rachel Talbot Ross (D-Portland) who introduced the bill and whose leadership made this happen!

Vote tomorrow 7am-8pm

It’s time to vote! The polls are open tomorrow (Tuesday) from 7am-8pm, and you can look up your voting location here.

Don’t miss this chance. Make a plan to vote, because this local election is important.

We are voting on representatives to a commission that could update our charter–changing the very nature of how our city is governed. That means changing how city decisions are made and what kind of future is possible for us all. It’s true: the winners of this election will re-write Portland’s future.

So make sure to vote! And vote for candidates who share your values.

  • At Large: Vote Democrat
  • District 4: Vote Marcques Houston
  • District 5: Vote Ryan Lizanecz

Democrats, we need you this weekend!

With the Charter Commission election on Tuesdaythis is the weekend to come together as Democrats and make a difference for Portland’s future.

We need volunteers to make some calls and knock on some doors, tonight, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It’s not that hard – we’re only reaching out to people who are already registered Democrats and giving them information about voting on Tuesday. We’ll give you instructions and everything you need to help. Just sign up and show up!

Can you sign up for one volunteer shift this weekend? Use this form to sign up.

  • Make calls – Thursday (tonight),6:00pm – 8:00pm (We will gather on Zoom and receive calling instructions in the Zoom meeting)
  • Knock doors – Saturday, 10:00am – 12:00pm (Gathering location: Baxter Woods, Stevens Ave. entrance)

  • Make calls – Monday, 6:00pm – 8:00pm (We will gather on Zoom and receive calling instructions in the Zoom meeting)

The Charter Commission is a non-partisan body, but that doesn’t mean Democrats can’t get involved. We want to make sure that the people making decisions about Portland’s future share our Democratic values. When Democrats help Democrats vote, we can change our city’s future together.
